What is your SUPERPOWER, and how often are you using it?

What is your SUPERPOWER?  More importantly…how often are you using it?

Working with many high performance, growth-oriented CEOs, we frequently explore and discuss the concept of their “Superpower”. A superpower is a talent they’ve been blessed with, a part of their DNA. They operate there with ease and grace, and when they use it, they bring life, value, inspiration, and energy to their business and those around them.

In contemplating those I work with, examples of “superpowers” include:

  • visionary capacity,

  • inspirational communication style,

  • interpersonal connectivity

  • commercial nous,

  • entrepreneurial flair,

  • empathy,

  • calmness,

  • authenticity.

Once a superpower has been identified, (which is not always that obvious), the major question becomes – “How often are they using it?”

High-performance CEOs typically have enormous bandwidth. They have a huge capacity to span their whole business, are well-read, and plugged into numerous networks across the community and world.  They can also be easily distracted by a new venture or opportunity, can jump in to solve a business crisis, or just get seduced into an activity in the business they have a desire to be involved with.    And whilst they are typically totally adept at doing all these things, they do need to consider the value they’re bringing to their business.

Superpowers bring HUGE value.  They are typically strategic in nature and enable those around them to flourish. Unfortunately, they are NOT what the CEO spends enough time using.

Here is a list of reasons WHY this MAY eventuate. Avoiding any one of these will assist in the CEO using building organisational capability to enable themselves to spend more time using their Superpowers:

  1. They have a high performance Leadership Team, but don’t trust them enough, and therefore step in to do other people’s roles too often;

  2. Their Leadership Team are not A Players;

  3. There is no Strategic Plan on a Page in place, with clear accountabilities for everyone for the next 90 days INCLUDING the CEO!

  4. There is no consistent, well-run, intentional meeting rhythm that ensures the focus on, and progress of the business’ priorities;

  5. No one is helping hold the CEO to account for their commitments; and

  6. There is insufficient clarity for roles and responsibilities across the business.

What is your specific Superpower?
How often are you using it?
What is stopping you from using your Superpower more?
Where specifically is your next opportunity to use this Superpower and by when will you commit to doing this?

And....
Please pass this onto your team.  Imagine they get into using their superpowers more often, and cascade the same principle across the whole organisation!  Where will that take your business?

Grow well
